Dr Livia Pontes
Dr Livia Pontes is a Clinical Psychologist with a multicultural background. She specialises in the assessment and treatment of a wide variety of psychiatric and neuropsychiatric conditions, including anxiety disorders, mood disorders, psychosis and Alzheimer’s Disease. She delivers cognitive-behaviour therapy (CBT) and neuropsychological interventions.
She has more than 10 years’ experience in psychology practice, research and teaching, having worked in two of the largest public psychiatric institutes in South America (Institute of Psychiatry, General Hospital of the University of São Paulo Medical School and the Integrated Mental Health Care Centre of the Santa Casa de São Paulo Hospital) and in her private practice. She has also worked at the NHS as a high intensity cognitive-behavioural psychotherapist.
She obtained her degree in Clinical Psychology (Hons) in 2003 from Mackenzie Presbyterian University (São Paulo – Brazil), and went on to specialise in the areas of Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Neuropsychology, acquiring Post-Graduate Diplomas from the University of São Paulo, where she received a scholarship.
In the UK, Dr Pontes obtained the title of Chartered Psychologist and became a Fellow of the Society in 2014. She is also registered as a Clinical Psychologist and accredited as a cognitive-behavioural psychotherapist by the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).
She runs a busy psychotherapy clinic in Milton Keynes offering cognitive-behavioural therapies for adults. As also offers independent assessments and consultation for professionals working with asylum seekers and human trafficking.
She is fluent both in English and Portuguese.
