Dr Derry is a clinical psychologist, family therapist and expert witness specialising in the study and assessment of child development and its relationship to parental functioning, adult attachment, the parent-child relationship and parental risk. He has also worked for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) as a psychologist and family therapist.

He is a trained EMDR therapist and has specialist skills and training in the assessment of trauma and PSTD and complex PTSD. He has worked as a Clinical Psychologist for NHS Forensic Mental Health services specialising in the assessment and treatment of patients with severe and enduring mental disorders, personality disorders and sexual offenders.

He has provided independent expert evidence and advice to the Civil, Family and Criminal Courts as well as Mental Health Tribunals for the past 24 years, whilst specialising in family court assessments and intervention.  He is the Clinical Director of Psychology Experts, managing and supervising over 300 expert witness Psychologists.

He also runs a busy private therapy practice supporting parents, children and adolescents and is a qualified family therapist and EMDR therapist.  He specialises in working with adults with complex and severe mental health problems including developmental trauma or personality disorder, severe and enduring mental health problems as well as adult trauma and PTSD.  He has worked extensively with survivors of childhood abuse, victims of torture and consults internationally for immigration welfare organisations.  He also offers interventions for parents and children in cases of familial triangulation involving a child’s rejection of a parent and the process of divorce.
